Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) – May 8-10, 2020

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards is an intensive, yet fun training program for high school 9th graders. It is a combination of seminars, interactive meetings and hands-on service projects.

RYLAs are designed for young adults with proven leadership ability and a commitment to community service. RYLA will help studens discover their potential and help develop the skills needed to be a leader in their communites, school and everyday life.

Through RYLA, students:

  • Develop leadership skills and character
  • Gain exposure to a variety of issues and people
  • Meet active community leaders
  • Learn valuable information and career skills

All the while, having fun, building friendships and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Do you know a 9th grader who would be interested?

RYLA participants are nominated by our District Rotary Clubs, and the clubs usually cover all expenses associated with the week-end long program.

The 2020 District 7545 RYLA will be held May 8-10 at WVU Jackson’s Mill, Jane Lew, West Virginia.

RYLA began in West Virginia in the fall of 1987. Since then hundreds of 9th grade students from around the state have received training in leadership skills at the weekend conference. The conference includes workshops, lectures on communications, problem solving, ethics and other general leadership skills. Traditional instructional programs are enhanced with hands-on components.

FUN is always a priority! Past conference have included talent shows, campfire with S’mores and a dance/pizza party. Participants are also introduced to programs of Rotary that exemplify “Service Above Self”. Rotary Exchange Students attend and discuss their year in West Virginia. District officers talk about Rotary and The Rotary Foundation, and Rotary’s core concepts are demonstrated with a hands-on packaging of meals for Rise Against Hunger, a favorite part of the program.
